Through deep conscious breathing, we can activate the sympathetic nervous system, releasing a huge amount of adrenaline. During breath holds, we enter a hypoxic state, proven to release a host of benefits and bring the body, and mind into a deep state of relaxation.

Cold Training

Cold training is a deep practice, teaching us to regulate stress and is a natural antidepressant! By facing the cold in a supported manner, we can begin to learn to deal with stressful situations together, and build more resilience in our lives, while also reducing inflammation, building our immune system and supporting our mental health through the release of hormones and neurotransmitters including Dopamine and Noradrenaline.

Mindset Training

Mindset & Commitment is the cornerstone of the Wim Hof Method. It takes time to build a habit. The Wim Hof Method requires patience, determination and commitment. The Mindset is the key to developing a habit and transforming your life.

The Wim Hof Method (WHM) is for people dealing with chronic pain, depression, illness, stress, or who simply feel an urge to evolve, explore, and connect. WHM is a safe space for healing and growth. A space where like-minded people come together in order to develop tools to optimize their health, grow their resilience, connect with nature and others, and push past their comfort zone to grow in ways unimaginable.

As a certified instructor of the Wim Hof Method, I’ll help you learn the practice so you can create your own practice and reap the benefits. WHM typically follows a pattern like the below, which you will learn about through events like Workshops, Retreats, or coaching.

  1. In order to prepare for the cold, we embark on a breathwork journey which calms the nervous system, and prepares the body to cope with the cold.
  2. Mindset, or commitment, is integral to the practice. In order to practice the method, one needs to fully commit to the practice.
  3. Then comes the cold exposure. Together, supported and guided you will have a 2 minute ice bath, using long exhalation to calm you and the horse stance to warm you up.
  4. All the while enveloped in an atmosphere of community, non-judgment, connection, and encouragement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Wim Hof Method safe?

The Wim Hof Method is considered safe for healthy individuals. If you have concerns, you should consult a healthcare professional before beginning.

The Wim Hof Method should not be practiced if you suffer from the following:

  • Coronary heart disease
  • Cold Urticaria
  • Epilepsy
  • Kidney Failure
  • Raynaud’s Syndrome (Type II)
  • High Blood Pressure (in case of prescribed medication)
  • History of serious health issues (e.g., heart failure/stroke)
  • Shortly after operation

Please also take caution with ice baths if you suffer from migraines

Can I practice the Wim Hof Method during pregnancy?

While pregnant, we advise against practicing the Wim Hof Method. There is not enough research to properly assess the effects of increased adrenaline on the health of the baby.

When the baby is born, you are safe to resume practicing the Method.

How often can I practice the Wim Hof Method?

In order to trully reap the benefits of the method, it is advised to practice daily.

The Wim Hof Breathing can be done in 15 – 20 minutes, and will leave you feeling both calm and energised, ready to take on your day. The cold exposure depends on you and your practice.

Personally, I find a cold shower a day ‘keeps the doctors away’, but it is important that you find a routine that not only suits your daily needs, but also improves your life.

How can I prepare for a Wim Hof retreat or workshop?

The best way to prepare for a retreat or day workshops is both mentally and physically.

I recommend you think of an intention. Why do you want to practice the method? What do you want to improve in your life? Starting with an intention will plant the seed to mentally prepare you.

On a physical level, start ending your showers cold. Aftr a warm shower turn the tap cold, and gradually build up your ability to enjoy and be in the cold. (10 sec – 2. minutes)
